In 1913 a little girl, only 4-years-old, is found alone on the wharf in Australia. She’s taken in by the portmaster and his wife, who are childless, and when no one comes to claim her they keep her and raise her as their own. Decades later her granddaughter tries to unravel the mystery of her grandmother’s origins.

What a magical story. The action moves back and forth in time, from the late 1800s to 1913 to 1975 to 2005. The four women central to the story ar

Why was a four-year-old girl apparently abandoned by her parents in 1913 and left alone on a ship bound from London to Australia? The Forgotten Garden moves back and forth between past and present to reveal this mystery. The story shifts from the turn of the twentieth century to present day. The lives of the ...more

I usually loved it when a story alternated between the present and the past but in this case, I knew the past was going to be painful but didn't really know how painful it was going to be until nearly 30% through and it was almost more than I could bear but I wa

I really loved the beginning of the story. Near the middle to the end the story seemed to be dragged out. Still an enjoyable read.
