Audiobook performed by Susan O’Malley

Amelia Peabody does not suffer fools gladly. Independently wealthy and feeling constrained by the rules of Victorian society, she decides to hire a companion and travel to Egypt. Her companion falls ill in Rome and has to return to England, but Amelia comes across a destitute, beautiful young English girl. Hmmmm...where to begin. I do enjoy the occasional mystery...including Agatha Christie. And this novel starts with the impression that it was right in the Christie style...even the settings in Egypt. #1 in the Amelia Peabody series. I'd rate this 4.5 stars if I could.

For some reason I thought I wouldn't like this book, so I've been putting it off despite much encouragement to begin. But I was very pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this book immensely. this was a great read. I loved the story but I think I was most enamored of the narrator as I listened to this on audio. It was fantastic. I also love the practicality of Amelia Peabody. I was so surprised to see a bit of romance in the story but that just made it all the better.

this reminded me of the alexia tarabotti series although it’s not a paranormal series. I fully expect to continue with this series and definitely on audio.
