I've heard so many good things about this book and I'm so glad I finally gave it a shot, even though it was an emotional roller coaster. This book was real. Things like this happened unfortunately and despite the sadness I felt reading this I'm kind of glad it portrayed the era truthfully.

Although I did really enjoy this book and eventually gave it a five star rating I had a few minor problems with it. First of all, the German translations, it was weird because some words were left in there in G

The Book Thief begins in 1939 Nazi Germany where we first meet Liesel Meminger and her younger brother. They are being taken by their mother to live with a foster family outside Munich. On the journey, Death visits the young boy, and notices Liesel. It will be the first of many near encounters. Standing by her brother's grave, Liesel's life is changed forever when she picks up a book, hidden in the snow. It's The Gravedigger’s Handbook, left there by accident, and it is her first act of book thi ...more

This one was hard for me. With all the good reviews and praise this book and author got, I was expecting SO much more. The story was interesting and the characters generally likable but overall, the story was ....okay. I liked it, but didn't love it. It's not a book that I will recommend to my friends as a "must-read". Therefore, 3 stars. ...more

I think this is the best book I have "read" (listened to) in years. Allan Corduner is an amazing narrator in his role (view spoiler) and I never got tired of that gimmick as others have referred to it. I thought the whole book was so refreshingly different for all of the reasons that others found it gimmicky. There was a ton of f ...more

this type of book i normally do not read but it was interesting enough to keep me going. I liked the fact that it pointed out how much reading changes a person's soul. the art of reading lets the reader wonder in different places without really going there. I liked the fact that the foster father thought it was important enough to teach the foster daughter how to read. during the time frame this book took place in he did not have to take the time. I would recommend this book to those that want a ...more
