There are so many great ideas in this debut work and most point to an outstanding career for its author. Alternate realities and dark haired women. The stuff of PKD. Although I recognize its genius, I personally found it too cluttered and therefore difficult. I think PKD learned quickly to be more concise with his writing after this. History buffs (I am not one) will find lots to happily ponder here and indeed some of the historical aspects are probably what failed to vibe with me. I still enjoy ...more

I can understand why this won the Hugo. However, I'm more into Philip K. Dick for the mind-bending reality stuff. There was a bit of that in this book though. The reason the book is well written is because Philip K. Dick spent about 5 or 7 years studying axis culture before he wrote it. The result was a book that was so convincing you actually really believed you were living under axis rule. Some may really enjoy this, hate it, or like me think its just ok. ...more
