I love the way the book started and got really excited when Parsons was sentenced to be exiled to Mars, but, sadly, he never made it and the rest of the book turned into a big mess. I've never been a huge fan of time traveling stories in the first place and this one was no exception, no matter how much I connect with PKD's writing style. Oh well, I can't love all of his novels.

Although published seventh, this was one of Dick’s first completed novels. It’s a fascinatingly astute look at the impermanence of time, something that even much later books by other authors completely throws out the window as their protagonists sashay through time changing things up willy nilly. This pulp novel is pretty fun to read and has a solid sense of “place.” Unlike the bulk of his 50’s output, it is focused on a single storyline but like them, it is clearly influenced by pulp mysteries.
