What Members Thought

Based on Dick's experiences living with drug users in the 70's, A Scanner Darkly operates on many levels. The stoner conversations provide light relief from what is essentialy a very pessimistic story. Identity, paranoia, and personal choice are some of the main themes covered in the book, and Dick portrays the plight of the drug addict very well. In style it is different from a lot of Dick's science fiction novels, but this remains one of his finest works.

I'm not sure what I just read. I really enjoyed Dick’s earlier novels, but this was very different.
