I’m a big PKD fan, but this book amplifies the worst parts of his writing. The initial premise shows promise, but is never fully realized into anything substantial. If I didn’t have the context from having read and loved some of his other novels, I’m not sure I would have been able to find much value in this at all.
“Batshit Crazy!” Like all the books by Dick dealing with ‘mental health/mental illness’ [“Now Wait for Last Year,” “Martian Time-Slip,” “Valis,” etc.] this one has also NOT been adapted for film! Yay! I read this in three ‘sittings’ - one really a prone position in the comfy hotel bed where I live in Bahia Solano in far, remote NW Coastal Colombia.

Philip K. Dick was a misogynist fuck, and this book is one of the best examples of that failure of his personality. It is, paradoxically, a wonderful look at a world i would never have been able to imagine, a sign of a mind i dearly appreciate having been able to glimpse in Dick's work.

This is from Dick's hyper-active, hand-to-mouth period. Yet it's very interesting, funny but tragic at the same time - something that probably reflects Dick's outlook at the time.
