I re-read this for the first time in over ten years and familiarity has weakened the strangeness of a very strange book quite a bit. This leaves the story which is a good attempt by Dick to use his own crazy experiences to blend religion and science fiction concerns into a mysterious tale of tyranny and conspiracy in the US of A. The moral about fearing the state is not subtle (perhaps even still relevant?) but then PKD was probably quite paranoid at the time. Always worth a read for sci-fi fans ...more
