I think I would’ve enjoyed this more if it was translated better. To me it was pretty mid and I don’t really see what the hype’s about. Also the last story left a bad taste in my mouth? Seemed like pro-life propaganda. I debated changing my rating to 2.5 stars because of it

this was decent! the concept was really interesting, and I think the stories themselves delivered. Of course, the writing was definitely lacking, and I think it may be in large part due to the translation.

I saw on another review someone said it would’ve been better as a play, and reading the back of the book I found out it had been adapted/inspired by a play! Which makes SO much sense because this would be an excellent play, and likely much more enjoyable and impactful in that medium.

It was ok. I think a lot of it was lost in translation. Didn't care much for most of the storylines. Additionally, I did not understand the motivations of the characters half of the time - although this could be due to cultural differences.
Also, (spoiler!) Guy REFUSES to sit at the same table as his wife and I'm supposed to mourn their relationship?? I mean the fact that he even proposed without knowing anything she had been saying to him during their entire courtship is just so crazy to me

I just don’t think that “Because apparently that’s the rule” (182) is a good enough explanation for why things are the way they are in a novel with fantasy elements

listen.....

it was okay! I wouldn't say i regret reading it but it was definitely just... fine? I have a feeling a few things were lost in translation (literally) but nothing was really cutting it here for me. The characters and reactions to everything, their personalities, the main storylines... I don't know.

my itch with the characters (no spoilers):
Fumiko was a little bit annoying.. I didn't
enjoy past Fusagi's demeanor and present Kotake's persistence.. and Hirai... ugh. The ONLY storyline I

Low 3 or high 2. The concept is interesting but all the stories feel similar so it gets less interesting as you keep reading.
