Okay so this review will potentially be subjected to more review because I still don’t fully know how I feel but I think I would give this 4.5 stars? I just know it’s gonna be a book that will stay with me for a long time. This is maybe the first time I was so certain in the initial half that I would dislike a book because tbh the writing style isn’t totally something I love - but the way it all comes together makes so much sense and beyond that is just heartbreaking. EDIT - 1st reread:

Piranesi absolutely holds up. I'd still give it a million billion stars if I could. I'm in shambles trying to keep it together with that ending.

I'm not sure if the reread is better than the initial read, but it does add a certain element of melancholy when you know what's to come. Still, there's something about this book that makes you want to read it over and over again despite how heavy you feel coming out of it. the very vivid descriptions were super immersive and beautifully written and i enjoyed piranesi's character, but this type of book isn't my fave since not a lot happens for the first chunk of the book ...more
