A beautifully moving story of love, family, and war torn relationships. With a charming fig tree as the narrator it defies the bounds of reality, but paints an all too familiar story of the ravages of war. Highly recommended for anyone who likes a touch of magic woven through their fiction.

This is a beautifully written story. A love story and so much more. Though historical fiction I had many connections to An Immense World (Yong) and The Overstory (Powers).

A beautifully crafted story with distinct characters. I leaned so much about the history of Cyprus.

The story is dedicated ‘to immigrants and exiles everywhere, the uprooted, the re-rooted, the rootless, and to the trees we left behind, rooted in our memories.’

This book beautiflly blends Cyprus history (largenly unknown by me), a love story, magical realism, and eco-consciousness into a stunning story.

I'll never look at fig trees the same way.
