Something about this book has been imprinted in the back of my mind. The transition from modern times to historical times were shocking, random but somehow made sense. Her way of tying the affects of slavery to modern times was unique and memorable.

yeah i relate to this story so heavily because this feels exactly like something a Black American HAD to write. i feel the yearning to make peace with the past and understand your ancestral story. but also, it’s just a damn good narrative. now off to watch the show and probably be disappointed lol
