before reading: I have unreasonably high expectations before reading this sooooo we'll see how it goes (taylor's entire discography is being heard atm)

after reading: OH BOY were the expectations met and completely shattered.. is it possible to love every single character in a book? i didn't think it was until now, but seems like it is.
i love liz sm because even though she made mistakes, she did the right thing in the end and even her mistakes weren't as jarring as so many other MCs.

But this book. God, this book.

I am so in love with this book and I will not apologize for the fact that I might be dreaming of my own version of Wesley Bennett (and my own version of 'Better Than The Movies' but alas a girl can only dream).

now this one..this one hurts me because of how much everyone raves about it and how much i was looking forward to it. i feel deceived,i feel bamboozled and like i read a completely different book.

i’m glad it was short and i didn’t have to spend any more time inside liz’s head because it was torture. she was INSUFFERABLE,made me want to rip out my eyelashes and i was fed up with her 30% into the book.

first of all she’s delusional and oblivious to anything and everything. she’s simping over a 3⭐️

first of all she’s delusional and oblivious to anything and everything. she’s simping over a guy with the charisma of a cardboard cutout whose only personality trait is having good hair and saying “YALL” every 5minutes (i swear if i saw the words “his southern drawl” ONE MORE TIME-) who might i add, she knew years ago when they were kids. she admits it too,is completely aware of the fact that she doesn’t know anything about him and yet continues to believe they are simply meant to be.

she is THE BIGGEST PICK ME istg,besides the whole dresses-wearing-black-coffee-drinking-listening-to-music-quirky-girl-who’s-totally-not-like-anyone-else- ness….
she’s a total bitch to Laney for no reason whatsoever - she has a constant monologue about how horrible she is,describes her as RANCID even though the girl is actually nice to her every time they interact. liz’s only reasoning for that treatment is that Laney looked at her weirdly when they were,like,5. so.

she acts without thinking,lies to everyone around her including her so called best friend,then gets mad at THEM when they catch her at a lie and call her out,lashes out at everyone instead of dealing with her own bullshit. she refuses to talk about her mom and then proceeds to get angry at Joss when she doesn’t understand certain things that might be a trauma response - because obviously she should just read Liz’s mind and figure it out,duh🙄

wes was probably the only character i actually liked and i WISHED desperately for his pov. he’s sweet,attentive,considerate and i can definitely see why people would be obsessed with him.

their scenes in themselves were cute,but the rest of the book was so bad i couldn’t even really enjoy them bc i was just tired of everything and lost interest. the popculture references on every page,quirky and “modern” language they used,the conflict in itself…it just felt very generic and repetitive ://

i probably would’ve ate this shit up when i was 13 and each book was written exactly like this. now i would expect a little bit more though ...more
