...more

Such a unique reading experience! It was a library loan, so almost all of the inserts were missing, but even without them I was so engaged with the book and the notes! This was also the first time I’ve ever read the book from start to finish three times in a row - I read the actual book first together with Jen and Eric’s first set of notes, and then read the other two sets of their notes.

S. is not just a novel. It's a total immersive experience, a puzzle, a bundle of ciphers, a maze, an entire universe of interconnected events and facts. Actually, it's very much a LOST-type experience in book form. After reading a few similarly immersive books in the recent past, I judged that I was ready to tackle another. I enjoy them. I enjoy the unique experience not available in a conventional novel. Well, nothing could have prepared me for this J.J. Abrams creation (with the help of writer

Ship of Theseus (SOT) is, without doubt, a marvel. How two people could conceive of such a fascinating book, with layer upon layer upon layer of information and secrets and *codes* is a marvel to me. Though I’ve finishing the story, I’ve certainly yet to finish the book.

Read-through #1, text and footnotes only, is complete. It's an interesting story that engages the reader more than many. With so many questions unanswered (e.g., what's up with the thread?), it forces us to fill in blanks for ourselves. The idea of the fictional Straka and Caldeira add another level to the story, especially the footnotes (which could stand to be a bit larger) that create a history for the author and his relationship with his translator.

An "experience" read...I have no idea what the electronic version would be like, but the 'hard copy' has all these real life inserts that just make it so cool
