3.5 ⭐️ Giving grace to this lovely author because I know she was struggling with covid and its after-effects as she wrote this. I adore the premise of the story, but it isn’t nearly as well fleshed-out with a noticeable decline in prose compared to her first duology. Looking forward to the sequel, but more importantly that she’s feeling back to herself and healthy.

I loved this book. It was so fresh, and Rachel Gillig is such a beautiful writer. I gave it 4 stars because I cannot imagine book 2 being anything but even better. The ending was a heartbreak.

I cannot wait to reread this with my highlighter and tabs.
