4.5 rounded up. This story was a sad one, and really pushes the reader to think. It’s not a light book, but is definitely worth the read. Really thought provoking about sexism, racism, classism, and technology, and how they all interplay with one another. My one complaint is that I felt like I predicted a lot of what was going to happen
What a time to read a book about truth. Met and maybe even exceeded my expectations based on all the reviews. I would have read this as a series but also appreciated the restraint and the way the story was so neatly choreographed into one book. Wang was able to bring so much meaning into the final act, so much brightness. The imagery and magic seamlessly integrated with the themes of seeing clearly and elevating truth throughout the book. A book that will be hard to ever forget.
I'm obsessed with this book. So well written. Love the story. Love the characters.
The map is clear and easy to read, unlike many maps these days.
It was predictable but still enjoyable. I like the way the author didn't shy away from the emotional fallout and the tough conversations that came afterwards. ...more

This one just didn't work for me. I'm bummed because it had such high reviews on GR that I bought it. I found it too slow for my taste and it had way too much social commentary. I don't want that in my escapism. I really liked the magic system at first but by the end it felt really gruesome. I never really warmed up to the main character Sciona. The end seemed to go on forever. I seem to be in the minority here.
