I went into this book blind. I didn’t really know anything it was about except some magic and being in Spain. That was it.

It was a fun story and a great ride. Getting to see this world of religion and magic come together in all the tangles that it does in life was fun. Getting to see the families think they know what’s best and the servants trying to make ends meet and their lives better. It was a story woven together as only Leigh can do.

The first 200 pages of this book was so boring. I almost DNF’d it but tried to make myself keep coming back to it. It was extremely slow, explaining how she was working as a maid and the dynamics of the situation with the lady of the house. There was very little with her magic until they discovered it and wanted her to do tricks. Then they want to bring her to perform to get a chance to work for the king and the books finally starts getting more interesting on the second half. It would’ve been m ...more
