“You are mine, Born-in-Fire. Even if only the two of us know it." Who would have thought this relationship started with a slap in the face by a fish of all things.

As this was my first time reading a book with Norse mythology, it was not difficult to follow. I really enjoyed the world building as it went along.

“I used to dream only of fire and ash," he whispered, running a thumb over my cheek as I lifted my face to meet his gaze. "Now when I close my eyes, all I see is your face.”

Shelves: fantasy

This Viking world with magic and warriors is done so well. I love this kind of setting. It reminds me of Sky in the Deep (which is one of my favorites) or the best parts of the Last Kingdom series.

The beginning chapters truly propel you into the setting. It is the kind of story where once you start reading it you never want to put it down. The pacing is perfect, it never lets the story slow for very long. Just long enough for Freya and Bjorn to talk something thru.

I have the same review for both books 1 & 2. Spoiler free.

I waited until the release of this second book to start this duology. It is so good!!! I'm glad I waited. Most of my series are many books and I can't do this! I loved getting the whole story together without the wait. While I love mythology, I've never gotten into Norse mythology. Now I'm ready to do some research! I loved this story. While its not my favorite story… I will definitely continue with book 2 to see how this plays out. Right now Bjorn might be more hated by me than Tamlin… which is tough! A little less blood & more world building would have earned another star from me.
