Fun first book of the year. I liked everything here I liked in the first book...but I also disliked a lot of the same things. I really like the characters....Violet(even though she gets annoying) Xaden, their friends and the dragons. I really enjoy the "war college" setting too. Some of things I didn't love... I tried to take my time reading this chapter of the Empyrean Series but I simply couldn’t. I loved every word in this story. They all have meaning and this book is clearly building for what is to come. I am a reader who wants to enjoy a story as the author is telling it and I was not disappointed. Can’t wait for the rest of this journey.

I’m so excited for this journey Rebecca Yarros is taking us through, and all in all, I really enjoyed this book. I took off a star though as I feel like it was a bit long and at times fairly confusing. It was hard to keep all the characters straight; I almost wish there was some sort of index that I could refer to!

I finished Iron Flame today, and it was just what I hoped it would be. As the second book of the series, it really opened up the world to so many possibilities and I am excited to see where the series goes. More and more fantasy elements are being woven in, which I love. I found Violet's insecurities relatable, even if other reviewers feel like they were annoying and she should just get over it.
