I honestly had no idea what I was getting into when I picked up this book. I'd seen many recommendations for it and it had a gorgeous cover so I figured why not?
I really loved this book. I've actually read it twice already, and decided to write a review on it because it's just that good. I really fell in love with the gothic feel of the poetry from the Old Book of Alders, and the concept of the Providence Cards. I loved this book. The story is well written and quickly enveloped me. The writing style is eloquent and sophisticated. I love the bits of poetry and riddles throughout the book, they offer a window of foreshadowing and mystery into the world Gillig has created. One of the top books I've read recently.
