Overall, I really liked this book. It was probably geared more towards the YA crowd, but still I can see why it appeals to a large audience. Rebecca Yarros is a talented writer, with an expansive imagination, evidenced by her ability to leap genres from some of her previous novels. I am now invested in this story and look forward to the next instalment...

Shelves: favorites, good-read

Once you get past the 1st 50% it finally got to where I couldn't put it down. It was hard to get through the first part though, but I was glad I did and picked up the 2nd book right away. Yarros has amazing use of words. Her plot holes and the endless amount of questions she leaves you wondering about when you finish her books is annoying, but it's what makes you pick up the next. ...more
