First 85% is chef’s kiss!

Many critics are complaining about a copy and paste formula from ACOTAR, GoT, HP, Divergent, Red Queen, Shatter Me… The book definitely drew inspiration from many popular books in this genre - but I liked the world Yarros created. I think since it’s inspired by so many different books that Yarros actually creates something new and fresh that hasn’t been done yet.

The final fourth of this book really picked up for me to become a compelling read, but other than the details regarding dragons before this part, wasn’t too keen about this read. I am also not a huge fan of combat or details about bodily harm, so that’s a likely contributor to my overall opinion. However, leaving this first installment I’m eager to see where the rest of Violet’s story goes. ( 3.25 / 5 )
