I have already read and reviewed the first book in the series, and the sequel proved to be just as great. Shyvoan Naivaschld (I hope this is the right spelling) was a very well written female character, and the story moved along at a good pace. The worldbuilding was also incredible, and made you believe you were there. Although I did struggle with some of the character names as they were very unusual it doesn't matter at the end of the day since it is a fantasy novel.

S. Lynn Helton’s Songborne Gates unfolds with sincerity and true love for its genre, following Shyvoan Naivaschld as she leads her fading clan toward… somewhere safer. It takes a while. I do have to nitpick Helton’s choice of sympathetic third-person narration, while also giving Shyvoan italicized thoughts, offering commentary that readers should already be getting from the Shyvoan-leaning prose. Anyway, I’m not sure if most fantasy fans will care that much.

Helton's fantasy realm is a delightful adventure, and while it had been a while since I read the first book, I was able to pick up fairly easily with this other installment. While I don't always lean towards fantasy that is soaked in magical spells and magic systems, this one does a decent job of entertaining the reader, without getting too bogged down or only using it as a plot convenience. The names are creative and take a bit of getting used to, but that is usually part of the fun with any sc

Well written, with great worldbuilding
Having enjoyed Crystalborne Sigils, I was looking forward to reading this sequel. Rather than continue where Crystalborne Sigils left off, the focus shifts to a different quest, with a new character, Shyvoan, a warrior, as the main protagonist. Devrand, from the first book, is a main secondary player; Gya and Alorsha are still present, but in very short snippets. The story focuses on Shyvoan and her companions’ quest to renew their magic, so they can escape ...more

Shyvoan is an interesting, strong-willed woman who’s leading her people on a desperate quest to find a new home and renew their fading magic. On their journey, they meet two men with hidden agendas, yet they form an uneasy alliance with them out of mutual need.
The series main protagonist, Gya and Alorsha, played minor roles in this story, which I thought was odd at first. But as the story went on, I enjoyed reading more from Skyvoan and seeing Devrand, the villain in book one, play a different, ...more

There's something deeply satisfying sequel that's better than original, and that's how I feel about Book 2 of The Deliberia Chronicles.
Alorsha and her fellow crew of the magical ship, Deliberia continue their pursuit of the villain, Devrand, to another strange new world. Except that plot point is merely the framework for the real story. That revolves around Shyvoan and her people who desperately trying to survive, fleeing from place to place from the Maheaja-Folk. Where book one had us follow Gya as he joined forces with visitors from another world hunting the magic stealing Devrand, book two changes viewpoints to Shyvoan as she joins our antagonist on a trek across a new world. Alorsha is still on her mission to rescue her better half, but the Deliberia and her crew lurk in the background for most of this story, serving to drive Devrand to push the limits of his captive and the people he has convinced to aid him.
