Another great story from Kat Kinney who seamlessly weaves paranormal with cozy mystery and romance. Set in Everwood Falls, a supernatural community of fae folk, witches and shapeshifters. Asher divides his time with the human realm where he can use his ‘fire control’ superpowers as a firefighter. But the consequences are dire when his control of fire is compromised by a dark curse and a demon arsonist is about setting fires. When dragon blood is found at one of the arson sites, Gwyneth, the shap ...more

Light My Pyre is a cosy romance story set in Everwood Falls, a town full of supernatural beings.

The two main characters, fae prince Asher, and dragon shifter Gwyn, are both very likeable. Both main characters are escaping trauma, with Gwyn escaping an abusive relationship. The supporting cast includes demons, witches, werewolves, and others, and worked well, although at times I did lose track of all the different people.

The mystery element centres around trying to discover who is lighting fires

The good thing about fantasy is that the imagination can be limitless. I believe I had watched some old Asian movie about dragon shapeshifters, but I certainly had never read a book about it.

The book follows the journey of Asher (a firefighter; this is not as close as Bookman as a librarian in Seinfeld, and definitely not better than a real-life firefighter, Lieutenant Les McBurney, but good enough) facing the challenge of a serial arsonist who seems to have something against him. He moves to a

Trying something out of my usual reads, so I picked this up. The main character is certainly someone I can relate to. No I don't have magical powers over the elements, but the sense of duty and responsibility is something I can certainly get behind.

Admittedly I prefer more direct science fiction stories, but there was certainly enough of a mix of modern technologies and fantasy elements to keep me interested.
I enjoyed the way that the writer combined the use of modern technologies and magical e

Asher is a class one fire wielding half-fae who is fighting fires in the human world alongside his cousin, until a fire gets out of control and they both are thought to be dead. Now he lives in the secret town of Everwood falls as the fire chief.

I loved the characters (the dog, Daisy, was my favorite) they were unique and their interaction with each other felt genuine and realistic. The setting descriptions were amazing, and I was easily able to visualize what was going on and where they were.

A pumpkin spice latte to warm your cold, cold heart.
This is a "cozy romance" in the vein of the slightly older "cozy mystery" genre. If you like your coffee like you like your men, women, dragons, and werewolves—with four pumps of caramel and double whipped cream—this is the fall romance for you. There is a solid mystery to unravel as the heroes try to get ahead of the serial arsonist targeting the town, and some genuine problems that the heroine is running from. Aside from that, it is squeaky c

"Light My Pyre," the first book in the Everwood Falls Series by Kat Kinney, is an excellent read. If you enjoy paranormal shapeshifter romance novels, this series is perfect for you. In this book Kinney brings us a paranormal mystery with romance.
Kinney immerses us once again in her captivating supernatural world. Everwood Falls is a small town nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where witches, werewolves, and vampires can live without fear of discovery. Those with uncontrollable curses

Light My Prye was such a fun and refreshing read. I was immediately drawn into the world of Everwood Falls—there’s something about small-town stories that feels like a warm hug, and this one didn’t disappoint. The characters were likable and real, and I especially enjoyed the spark between the main characters.

There’s a subtle thread of mystery and just enough magic to keep things interesting without overcomplicating the plot. It struck a nice balance between heartwarming and intriguing. By the e

I must say, this isn't my typical read, but Kat Kinney is a good author who has a way of transporting people into her world and keeping your attention. Cool atmospheres, interesting shapeshifter characters, awesome heroines, etc. The pacing is a little slow, and I typically like more epic fantasy or dark fantasy, but the environments, description, and prose keep everything on point. There are also epic beasts and fae and supernatural oddities-- all meandering around in this interesting world. If ...more

Light My Pyre by Kat Kinney is one of those books that once begun, it is difficult to put down. It has elements of the supernatural, romance with a blend of thrills that keeps the reader on the edge.

Firstly, the setting is great; where humans and supernatural beings co-exist without any major hindrances. The detailing of the characters are spot-on and lastly the story is terrific with many twists which one is unable to guess until the very end.

Overall, it is an enjoyable read especially for fa

In this delightful quick-paced paranormal romance that's a cozy mystery too, Asher and Gwyneth find themselves dealing with troubles from their pasts. At the same time, what seems to be a serial arsonist strikes in a hidden supernatural town in the Colorado Rockies.

Asher and Gwyneth aren't alone; others in town also have shadows from their pasts that haunt them. I enjoyed seeing how the various characters interacted, with both some conflict and some coordination. I found the characters interesti

This was my first foray into the world of dragons, demons, werewolves, fae etc and I wasn’t too sure how I would find it. But it’s given me a taste for more. What a wonderful mixture of the supernatural, cosy romance and mystery!

I got really into this world, where the supernatural beings behaved like ordinary mortals except for their special powers. And I absolutely loved the humour, which had me laughing out loud at times.

I will definitely be looking out for the next in this series and explorin

This book is such a quick and cozy read! I think you'd like this if you enjoy cozy small-town books with blue collar heroes. Our MMC, a firefighter, moves to a small town after a devastating accident kills his friends. (He has a secret there, of course.) He's learning to control his fire magic in a very perfect autumn outdoorsy Colorado setting. There's also a cute dog! A quick, short, and action-packed read. I recommend! ...more
