I have to admit that I was quite frustrated for one-third of the book. I was confused about where it was going, who the characters were, and what it was about. Wasn't a fan of a sudden second-person narrative as well, and the main supposedly protagonist that I found unlikeable. The narrative also jumped to different scenes and characters without any indication, making it hard to follow. Another thing that was too jarring for me: the product placements! There were too many of them, especially in ...more

Great, confident voice. The author uses a few narrative styles, with an artistry I admire. The camera is external to the characters—you experience the story playing out before you in cinematic fashion. Other reviews of this book refer to the comic-book superhero feel of the story. That’s accurate. There’s a unique flair to the writing--because of the style. Well done!

The ‘external’ camera (very little introspection form the characters) made it tough for me to feel connected to any of the charact

A stellar novel from cover to cover, following the exploits of a teenage vigilante working to rid the streets of Acadia of a terrible drug. Alley is tough, smart, and resourceful. Together with her vague mentor, Coach, they clean up their city one drug lab at a time.

Blind Cerulean is not a superhero story, but it's easy to forget that from time to time. For even though there are no superpowers or blind crime fighters or Batmobiles, the novel's key plot points and action scenes are sometimes so

I can absolutely see this book being turned into a thrilling TV series for fans of DC Superhero Girls. Gene Kendall’s book Blind Cerulean has all the trappings of a great thriller; graphic violence, action and intrigue. Fifteen year-old Alley is an unlikely hero who goes after the drug dealers and criminals who are taking over her city of Acadia. Thankfully, she is not alone, a mysterious mentor/coach shows up to train and harden her for the job of vigilante. Alley quickly catches the attention ...more

Listened on Audible.

A criminal mastermind, a strong student of the masters craft, an innocent family unknowingly embroiled, and an easy going mother who loves her tv shows and .. a-hem.. tea? It’s all connected in this thrilling tale of crime, drugs and Pachelbel Canon.
I really enjoyed the story and the POV’s of not just the protagonist (although she was more of an anti-hero which I liked even more) but also the antagonists and other characters. I also liked that I was given an unexpected (2nd

My first reaction? Mr. Crocodile, Mr. Ox, Mr. Boar, Mr. Condor! Where am I? Gotham City or Bronx Zoo? Where’s Batman? Where’s the zookeeper? I must admit Kendall’s highly unique literary style had me confused at first but intrigued. But is that what the author intended? Get you rattled so you understand his world and feel immersed in the comic book-like atmosphere of thugs and vigilantes, villains, and heroines. And what a heroine; 15-year-old Alley is sassy, sharp, and capable. But she must be ...more

Blind Cerulean is about a teenage girl vigilante crime fighter. The bad guys have names that reminded me of Saturday morning cartoons like Scooby Doo: Mr. Ox, Mr. Crocodile, etc.

This book is told in the second person POV, which left me wanting more internal dialog. There are many separate plot lines that eventually come together, but at times, it is confusing. The grammar is jarring, sentences are not standard, and tenses are mixed. If you can get past that, the story has merit. 3.5 rounded up
