This is the fifth book in the Wild Heritance series that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. We follow Namid and Aahmes as they attempt to escape the ‘gods.’ While the previous book focused on Namid’s family, this one shifts to the clans. Unsure of who to trust and wielding the dangerous power of blood magic, Namid and Aahmes strive to defeat the ‘gods’ and restore the city of Nazextas.

Fans of more traditional fantasy -- as opposed to the more modern, more nihilistic and graphic style of George R. R. Martin -- will find a lot to enjoy here. This book continues Namid's story, expands the world of the characters, and gives her an interesting internal conflict. She has to question if the mystery force that's twisting her magic is as dangerous as her quest to find the answers behind the mystery. As much as I enjoyed the previous 2 installments in the trilogy (not counting the prequels), this one was a cut above. Without wanting to get into spoilers, I will say there is a bigger focus on the two mc's and less of an ensemble, which I think helped this book to shine.
The worldbuidling over the last 2 books really paid off here, giving a sense of scale and a coherent world through which these characters navigate their lives.
