I was hesitant at the beginning of this book, as the author took her time in setting the stage of characters and settings (which were beautifully vivid). This book caused me pause in considering the big themes of family, pace of life, and legacy. I will now be planting elephant ears in every yard I ever have. 🌱

*4.5 rounded up* this is honestly such a GOOD story of family love, preserving what’s important, and understanding the significance of what your family has gone through. I loved the way Trigiani wrote and how she used multiple perspectives and times. I felt like I was there with the women in the story, finding myself identifying with several of the characters, as well as looking through a window into a new culture with different traditions and religion. All in all a solid book. I agree with @Kaylee, the perspective of Italians in WWII was so very cool, I loved it. Would recommend for peeps who like historical fiction! (Regretfully I’m just not really one of those peeps haha) But I’m glad I read it !! Interesting enough the parts I liked the most were the history parts ?¿?¿ #unexpected
