I read an Illustrated Classics comic-book version of this book as a child. Multiple times. It's only taken me another 40 years to read the unabridged version of this page-turner. Despite the French names and the multiple monikers for the main character, this book is very easy to read. It was published as a serial over 2 years. The way this book continually reaches peaks of interest makes me think of the weekly episodic movies ("tune in next week to see what happens to…"). Don't think of this as

I feel like I deserve a medal for reading this!
