This lived up to my expectations. The start was a bit slow, and I wanted a tiny bit more from the romance, but this story and magic system are so unique and exciting to read about! Plus I love the gothic atmosphere

ok. i loved this a lot like listen i would let ravyn eat me up spit me out then lick me back up again i love that man.

i especially loved the magic system. we're in a world where they worship trees with tarot-esque cards made by an ancient king. you tap the card 3 times to use its magic, then tap it 3 times again to stop. magic in this world has a price, and a LOT of it is heavy. it feels like actions have con ...more

Finally finished this beauty! Like everyone else said, it is a slow paced book but it suits this book so well. I loved it, tension in this, wow. Their chemistry? Wow. I hadn’t felt like this (all butterflies 🦋) in a while! Also very excited to read the second book! 💌

One Dark Window is a must read YA (however, it doesn’t feel like YA) gothic fantasy romance book. Elspeth has a secret and, if people find out, she will be killed. She has been infected with magic since childhood and hears a nightmare in her head. Elspeth meets the dangerous and mysterious Captain and nephew to the king, Ravyn, the one responsible of the death of the infected. However, the captain isn’t who he pretends to be.

1/5 🌶️ (yes I’m rating spiciness now)

A little repetitive especially with the rhyming and I could’ve done without the insta love but if I’m being honest with myself I still ate that shit UP. And that magic system?!?! What a creative breath of fresh, SALTY air (ha see what I did there)

Fave character: Nightmare (gave me Tairn vibes, loved the sass)

Now to convince my book club to read book 2 immediately cause I need more
