Oh how I adored thee...
This was beautiful, and seductive.
A caress, a whisper.

Adeline LaRue does not want this life that is laid out for her, she turns down proposal after proposal, until her parents arrange marriage with Roger. She doesn't want to marry and lose herself. She wants to be free, to live.
So she prays, to the old gods, the new God does nothing. Day in day out she prays, giving all she has yet none answer.
And time is running out.
Never pray to the gods that answer after dark
If yo ...more

May 12, 2025 - Reread Review | Defo still a big fan of this book. And I just realized that this reread falls within the third-anniversary mark of my first book read. Addie and (view spoiler) forever! <3

not my usual read, but i'm glad i picked it up!
me in the aftermath of this book wants to give it 5 stars, but i have to remember the middle 150 pages or so that were less than stellar. that was the time when i struggled with discerning between my desire to read this book and my desire to find comfort in the act of reading a book (any book). i felt that the chapters on Henry's past were a bit dull - the prose was also not as lilting and captivating as those that were written in Addie's perspecti ...more

I loved this book! There's so much I want to write about the book but I can't for the life of me do it without giving all the spoilers.
Let me ask you this, what if you could live forever, never age or get sick and all your wounds heal without a trace. You make a deal and now have all the time to see the world, nothing and no one holding you down. Sounds good right? What if I told you the cost to have that life would be you can never speak or write your name again, you're forgotten the moment yo ...more

This book moved so slow and while I did enjoy the ending and it did have me feeling a lot of things, I had a hard time picking it up to read because it just did not keep my attention. I think the plot had really amazing potential but it fell a little flat for me. I love Schwab’s other books way more.

This… this was amazing. I usually read so quickly but this took me almost two weeks because I wasn’t ready for it to end. It was written beautifully and ended in a way that I wouldn’t have expected, but was definitely happy with. 10/10 recommend and am very excited to read anything else Schwab creates.

I thought I published this but I guess I didn't... Out of all of V.E. Schwab's books this one took me the longest to finish. I found it was more one you slowly enjoyed. It reminded me a bit like Benjamin Button or The Age of Adaline. Schwab flawlessly transports you to back and forth between different time periods unraveling Addie's important life milestones while giving you a taste of the relationship between her and Luc. There was no binging this at least for me. I liked the development of the
