No offense to a lot of people but this was one of the worst books I have ever read. I was pretty excited to say the least to read this book but the more I read the more I was disappointed and disgusted. Marianne deserved more than Connell and a lot more other characters. Connell could've at least for a second looked at Marianna as a actual person rather than a sex symbol because she was more than that. All women are more then what stereotypes base them as. Once Marianna allowed Connell to come b ...more

this was so raw and real, at some parts it felt like Rooney was reading the deep dark parts of my journal. the writing style really stood out to me and even though this wasn’t plot based i still couldn’t put it down. the description of feelings and dual pov from both Marianne and Connell really brought the story together.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it’s a very gritty, realistic portrayal of what life is like for so many people; despite what some of us may think, none of us can really be defined as “normal”, and that’s okay. On the other hand, I absolutely hated Connell and Marianne’s relationship. I think the only reason I kind-of-sort-of rooted for them was because all of Marianne’s (and Connell’s) other relationships were dumpster fire awful.

tbh i don’t think i would have enjoyed this as much if i hadn’t watched the tv show first so i can totally understand the negative reviews.

but as someone who adores the show, i absolutely love how i could picture every scene so perfectly 🥺 the show definitely brought it up a notch with the emotionality and chemistry between marianne and connell, which i felt the book lacked a bit of. i think the true appeal of the story is their special connection and that’s something that is better and portray

I- I don't really know what to say about this book. It was a recommendation I'd heard from everywhere- booktok, booktube, friends. Sally Rooney's writing was beautiful and drew me in to this angst-ridden love story about two deeply flawed individuals. They've both been through A LOT which I wasn't necessarily expecting. There were some really beautiful lines and... I don't know. I think I just need time to let it simmer. ...more

1/3-1/2 of this book could have been chucked if they had just learned to communicate

ya i’ll read another one of her books if i’m seeking depression. i also seriously hate ominous endings and how much could’ve been solved if they just told each other how they really felt, especially connell.
