This is one of the best books I have read this year. Literally from page 1 I was hooked.
This book was absolutely amazing, and dare I say BETTER than ACOTAR... If I had to compare it to ACOTAR, I would say that the FMC wasn't as annoying as I found Feyre. I think the plot of this book was better because it had me hooked throughout the entire thing and I didn't find one moment of it boring. Fantasy is my favorite genre to read, but it is also (unfortunately, and I have to change that) one of the genres that I read the least. And the last few times I read it, it didn't impress or captivate me as much as this book.

This book was an incredible read. It held me from start to finish, every time I picked up the kindle I couldn't stop reading. It was a really, really good read, but since not everything is perfect, this book has its positives and negatives.

Starting with the charact 4,5 stars

This book was an incredible read. It held me from start to finish, every time I picked up the kindle I couldn't stop reading. It was a really, really good read, but since not everything is perfect, this book has its positives and negatives.

Starting with the characters:
Although I liked Violet, I found her to be an inconsistent character. In a few moments she was all "Oh, I'm a badass up blah, blah, blah" and shortly afterwards she was already doubting herself and feeling insufficient. The author did not develop her self-discovery as a "Rider" very well and she went from simply thinking she was weak, to thinking she was badass and that bothered me a little.
Another thing that bothered me was her getting angry about things that had nothing to do with her. Constantly she had to be reminded that not everything was about her, constantly.
The other characters are pretty cool, I really liked Rhiannon and Ridoc, the interactions between them and Violet were very funny. And even though he's the other main character, I don't really like Xanden. I liked the romance between him and Violet, but he as a character didn't win me over.
And I have to talk about the dragons, because they really steel the scene. Tairn and Andarna are my favourite thing in this book. I want a dragon, I want to bond with a dragon. I NEED AN ANDARNA IN MY LIFE, she is the most adorable thing.

The world building is amazing. It's the first fantasy with dragons thatI read and I loved it, I already want to read more books with them.
All the mythology around the "Riders" bonding with the dragons and them being dependent on each other, and that connection giving them unique powers, was amazing. The construction is mega complex and creative and I missed reading a book with a world with this level of complexity. I had some difficulty following the political part, but I think it was because the book is in English (wich is not my first language) and it was the first time I read a high fantasy in English.

The book doesn't have a big plot-line, it has mini-plots here and there that were very good but also very predictable. Just like the big reveal at the end was too. Also, a point that bothered me a lot, was the many similarities that this book has with others I've read (I'm not going to say which book, because it could be a spoiler) And it slightly irritated me at times, but it didn't affect my reading experience too much; I still like the book, it was just something that irritated me a bit.

Rebecca's writing is very good, very fluid, it grabbed me right from the first pages of the book, but a few things bothered me (nothing that effectively affected the reading or the rating, just little things that irritated me). Starting with something pretty silly, but the writing being too modern bothered me a little for being a high fantasy book, but it wasn't a big deal. The heavy use of italics (this one was a bit necessary, but it didn't fail to bother me) and also lots of. phrases. what. she. wrote. like this. with the periods after each word, was annoying me.
(There were some moments when I was confused, some descriptions of fight scenes, but I think it wasn't because of the writing but because of my lack of habit of reading high fantasy in English)

I really enjoyed this book, really really liked it. It was a fun and engaging read. I can't wait for the second book to come out. This is the first indications I get on tiktok and I really like it. Congratulations, booktok, you nailed this one. ...more
