I don‘t like heavy smut and I especially don‘t like heavy smut recommended by BookTok.
First ‘Scarred’, then ‘Corrupt’ and now this one … I just can‘t seem to learn my lesson.
But I must give C.D. Carlton credit for their writing style, didn’t expect it to be that good.

Look, I think I need therapy after enjoying this book as much as I did. What can I say, I’m a basic b*tch who enjoys a morally grey (dark dark grey) MMC. The romance/stalking had me hooked from beginning to end.

Is Zade a good man? NO! Not at all. Not even a little. But, his protective/possessive side was HOT. Wrong…. But HOT.

The storyline with Zade was the darkest and I suggest to you check the TW because IT IS DARK. Maybe that’s why I forgave Zade for his actions towards Adeline, he needs to ...more

1) his god complex like what the fuck.
2) he never got Addie’s consent for anything and literally raped her probably four times I want to say. This is not a love story, I’m sorry. Everyone glorified this as a love story. Raping, stalking, and putting hands in boxes isn’t love.
3) where the fuck was the plot to this book? It was non existent, I swea 2⭐️ holy fuck. I finally got around to reading this book. I honestly don’t even know what to say. This was beyond fucked up. I have so many thoughts.

4) it made me so mad when daya and Addie were quite literally DEFENDING Zade for his trafficking business. I think it’s really admirable to put u in those situations honestly. But they both knew how he handled the business and how bat shit physo he was. He even said his parents were amazing, and how he describe them, they were average people. And then they had him, and he was completely normal up until he graduated from college or maybe even before that.
5) I feel like Carlton completely disregarded not only Zane’s mental health from his parents dying, but Addie’s, most importantly. She was quite literally raped multiple times, has ptsd from it, paranoia from Zane’s crazy stalking tendencies, never having a good relationship with her parents, her great grandmother getting murdered, I mean….I would’ve loved a dive into her head.
6) how Addie was raped…and it was brushed passed…she never consented to anything at first and Zade didn’t give a shit
7) the sex I have to say was 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ minus the gun in her cooter cat. I think I would’ve passed out if that happened from fear.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this book to friends. It’s beyond fucked and glorifies love in a very toxic way. I would even say this is for 21+. I would say if u are under that age, please be aware of the warnings, because they are very important and true. It discusses stalking and human trafficking in great detail. ...more

what a wild ride this one was. this was my first ever dark romance and i’m still trying to process exactly how i felt about the substance of it all. every page turned had me eager to read more & 90% of this read had me on the edge of my seat so for that, 4/5. definitely see myself reading the next one considering the cliff hanger it left me on🤦🏻‍♀️
