EDIT: Conflicted because I SO wanted to love this book, but only really kind of liked it (not enough to love it). I loved Evelyn and Harry’s undying friendship the most and liked how some of the characters were really layered and complex (I both loved and really disliked Evelyn and Celia as characters), but it still just felt like the story was missing something?? I’m not sure what, but somehow the big reveal at the end and the events after that didn’t shock me, even if I wasn’t entirely expecti ...more

This was an incredible read - it was vivid, raw, wildly captivating

It touched on glamour, fame, celebrity and the price of it all in a refreshing and singular way. Evelyn was such a force and the nuance of this book made it exemplary.

This book is amazing. The story and characters are intricate and multi-layered in a way that I've not found in many other books. Through the telling of Evelyn Hugo's life story, I was taken on a journey through old Hollywood - the good, the bad and the ugly. Harry Cameron, the true blue, has a firm place in my heart, and his story almost broke me. The fantastic writing in this book led to lots of tears and conflicting feelings about Evelyn and many of the people featured in her story.

3.7/5 stars!
Although I enjoyed the book I can't help but notice how I don't really care about any of the characters.
I think I will gravitate towards more books about fame and Hollywood, I never thought i would’ve enjoy it as much as I did, I guess I do like "celebrity gossip" after all.

3.7/5 Estrellas!
A pesar de que disfruté el libro, la verdad es que no llegué a conectar al 100% con ninguno de los personajes, pero la historia de Evelyn me daba mucha curiosidad.

God I’m not even kidding when I say this might be one of the best books I’ve ever read, every chapter I felt so captivated about what would happen next. I would always say ‘just one more chapter for the day and I’m done’ but I just couldn’t stop reading, I haven’t felt this excited for a book in that way for a very long time. This was an incredible book, and I just cried and fell in love with many characters in this story, they felt like people to me even though they’re fictional characters.
