so, this book is a LOT to unpack, so i believe i will go with it in the way i think is the most beneficial to my thought process; which is writing this review character-wise. i will skip over the first part of the book (poor ernie diaz), mostly because i found it incredibly hard to get through.

goddamn don adler. this chapter is the one that made me gain the most respect for evelyn. she faces her problems with such quick wi no, heartbreak is a loss, divorce is a piece of paper.

goddamn don adler. this chapter is the one that made me gain the most respect for evelyn. she faces her problems with such quick wit and thoughtfulness, that i immediately idolized her, kinning her ever so slightly. i will say that don adler can go to shit, and i think that the fact that evelyn (and by extension ruby) could only go on the record to say what he did, decades after it actually happened.

talented celia st james. celia is by far one of the best characters in this book (alongside harry and evelyn). she won my heart, even though she annoyed me at times (mostly when she tried to put evelyn in a box). i think her relationship with evelyn is beautiful and wonderous and magical. and i will *always* cherish the scene of their marriage.

brilliant, kindhearted, tortured; harry cameron. i will say it once and only once. i think harry is the character that i loved the most in this book. he was kind, loving, caring and the best father around. i genuinely cried when he died and probably felt the most pain during his death scene. i loved how he loved his work and threw himself into it. it was like appreciating something you could never be yourself.

icon, legend and the moment; evelyn hugo. this woman has so much respect on my end. i love her so much. i also kin her. the values she potrays (seeing the truth; however ugly and not being afraid to show the world she wasn't beyond using people to get what she wants) are values i personally agree with, and seeing her live this life undeniably makes me so happy. evelyn *means* something to me.

the twist ending. finally, the part that left so many broken. i predicted it. i will say that is a flex and a loss to have known what was gonna happen, because at one point i was waiting for this to come true (losing fun in parts of the ending) and also very proud of myself for predicting a plot point in a book for once. so i'm still kinda mixed on this ending.

i am evelyn hugo. and anyway, i think once people know the truth, they will be much more interested in my wife. ...more

evelyn hugo was such an interesting character to read about; i have to admit that i wasn’t that excited about reading it because i didn’t know how interesting i’d find it reading about her seven marriages. this book is so much more than just her marriages.

At first, I wasn't enjoying the writing, I found Monique to be cringy and idk just wasn't a fan of the way Taylor wrote her character at first. I thought she came across as a very bland character and kind of stereotypical. As the story started acquiring more "rhythm" and "substance" I found myself enjoying when Monique had the chance to "speak" or tell the reader more about her life. I love this book, I read it whenever I'm feeling down, and it cheers me right up again, then crushes my soul, then I reread. Its basically about the price of fame, and how Evelyn got to where she did, even if she didnt make a lot of choices. Its not like its the most well written book ever, but its really fun to read and good for when its a rainy day and you dont have the attention span for anything else.
