this book took me way to long to finish. there were parts of the book i found so repetitive and predictable but all in all i liked the way it ended surprisingly. i cried regardless lol.

“You do not know how fast you have been running, how hard you have been working, how truly exhausted you are, until somewhat stands behind you and says, “It’s OK, you can fall down now. I’ll catch you.”

To be honest, I had no idea what to expect from this book, I just wanted to read this book and see if it is worth the hype. And it is! A scandalous and heartbreaking book. This is the first book I've read by Taylor Jenkins Reid, her writing style is so good. I love how detailed and well-writte

EDIT: Conflicted because I SO wanted to love this book, but only really kind of liked it (not enough to love it). I loved Evelyn and Harry’s undying friendship the most and liked how some of the characters were really layered and complex (I both loved and really disliked Evelyn and Celia as characters), but it still just felt like the story was missing something?? I’m not sure what, but somehow the big reveal at the end and the events after that didn’t shock me, even if I wasn’t entirely expecti ...more

I’ll be adding this book to the list of books I was afraid to read because of the hype and then absolutely fell in love with it. I remember when this came out, followed up by Daisy Jones and the book world blew up about it. Back then this kind of story wasn’t what I wanted to read so I wrote it off. I’m so glad my tastes have evolved and that I gave this a chance. Evelyn Hugo is such a complex character and the way this story is told is so entertaining, relatable, and overall so enjoyable even i ...more

This was my first book by TJR and she came through with flying colors!!!! I am in the awe of this book and how much I came to love and despise Evelyn throughout the book and especially at the end. Although the chapters leading to the ending were heartbreaking, I too, like our character Monique, had a weird relationship with either worshiping Evelyn or looking at her as a human being with flaws. I absolutely loved the story and connected so much with Evelyn's character. ...more

4.5/5

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing is easy to binge and the story overall was very captivating, with just enough mystery to keep you hooked but didn't feel like overkill. The only thing was I wasn't as emotionally invested in these characters as I expected to be. But nonetheless still really enjoyed reading this and loved the story it told. ...more

I did NOT expect this book to take such a beautiful/emotional turn. Moreover, I did NOT expect to love this book.

But I happily stand corrected!!!

I cannot explain to you in words how beautifully written and edited this book is. It is arguably flawless. Also, it’s a story I truly believe even the most mystery-obsessed readers will be unable to predict.

This is the kind of well written fiction that has you googling character names after finishing it just to make sure it really is in fact fiction.
