The story Maggie O’Farrell imagines and creates for the mostly unknown life of Lucrezia di Cosimo de’ Medici d’Este, Duchess of Ferrara is richly developed and drawn so as to give meaning to her short, unremarkable life. In Maggie’s capable hands, Lucrezia is an intelligent, compassionate, strong-willed, and independent woman. This novel is a fantastic feminist tale for readers today! Highly recommended.
