I love this series so much, but I can't allow the monstrosity of this first book to pass unscathed. I've sat on this review for a year firstly because the mental void I sent myself into after reading this can't be explained easily. Secondly, I don't have the adequate degrees and grasp of the English language to describe this book. Dating Dr. Dil must be experienced in audiobook format while you're in the gym. I swear to you that it will light a fire in you like no other. You'll burn the most cal I love this series so much, but I can't allow the monstrosity of this first book to pass unscathed. I swear to you that it will light a fire in you like no other. You'll burn the most calories you've every burned in your life. Your step count will be begging you to just stop and rest your poor feet.

Every single character in this book is insane. This book reminded me why South Asian people are so funny. (These are my people okay so put down any pitchforks - we're not in Shrek). Reading this feels like being at a party (or 'dawaat' as we call it) at your family friend's house and it's 4am and your parents still don't want to leave. They're back to the first conversation they had upon entering the house and you're delusional, dehydrated and in dire need of sleep.

Dating Dr. Dil reminded me of why brown men in particular are menaces. Prem Chopra, aka Dr. Dil, is the human embodiment of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes." I won't even go into the fact that he calls a certain appendage of his "CHARLIE". First of all, why did he pick that British/colonizer name? I fear the colonial history of our ancestral past possessed this man. Smh all brown kids in the diaspora are the same. His great-great grandfather is yelling somewhere.

Secondly, he's a doctor of the cardiological variety. And yet the man is out here stomping on Kareena's heart quite easily - too easily I fear. Someone didn't take his Hippocratic oath very seriously. However, since he's a doctor on top of being emotionally obtuse, unreliable and attractive if you close an eye and forget his personality, he's the most eligible brown man this side of the States!

For me, Prem is the "male lead you enjoy more in someone else's book". He's a hoot and a half in Tastes Like Shakkar so he's redeemed himself somewhat. Also, Kareena is a lawyer with a gang of Aunties that love her and could assassinate Prem and get away with it (Kareena would help with the legality) so he'll be kept in his lane.

Anyways, Kareena's gonna be fine if she keeps this man sitting at her feet while she pets his hair. Girlbossism. ...more

dude this book was the definition of a guilty pleasure
sure the plot and stuff wasn't the best it could be, but honestly it was such a cute story and the food descriptions were to die for and they have a taylor swift playlist? instant 10/10 for me ...more

there were some inconsistencies that no one has pointed out but yeah, or was i sleepy? anyways, too much was happening in the whole book and it was the fastest slow burn??? i don't know i liked the spice tho damn ma imma get a prem if he can love like that oh sorry but he can't 3 ...more

I LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS! Yaaaas for the QUEEN Kareena! I feel strangely emotional after finishing this book.

Romance novels sell an idealized fantasy that we all want to experience. They may be fiction, but there is a reason why so many people connect to love stories. Because that’s the type of feeling we want to give, and want to receive.
