3.5 stars. Maybe it is because I've seen the movies so many times and Goldman is a screenwriter as well as a novelist but there's certainly no fleshing out of the story. The book could almost be just a novelization of the movie. The entire "idea" that this is a condensed version of the Morgenstern made for a very clever and interesting conceit at times, but it also made it easy to avoid a lot of world-building.
