I think this is McLaren’s best book so far. He separates faith into 4 stages: simplicity, complexity, perplexity and harmony and describes how we all start out in simplicity and how some move forward into the more advanced stages. More importantly, he seeks to provide a way through the stage of perplexity ( which encompasses disillusionment and doubt) into harmony, where faith includes doubt but also moves forward into a faith working itself out through love.
