From the Bookshelf of La Crescent Public Library…

[close] Of Mice and Men is a literary classic set in the California fields of the 1930s. It follows two very different, but close, men, George and Lennie, working on a ranch with many socially different characters. George and Lennie have a dream for themselves, but will the events that occur throughout the book, and the societal views of the time keep them from achieving it?

I read this book in a class last fall about literature and disabilities. I really enjoyed the discussions we had about the American workforce, race, societal views on disabilities, and relationships. This book is very short (~100 pages), but it has so many connections to today’s world.
