[close] After seeing this book come through our library delivery so many times, I decided to finally see what the hype was about. I'm happy to report this was a book that, for me, lived up to its hype!

Reminiscent of the Divergent and Shadow and Bone series, this new adult title features dragons in its worldbuilding and a young rider who was trained to be a scribe, but is suddenly thrown into battle. Violet will have to work harder than she ever has before and will be tested just as much.

It's a good amount of fantasy for readers who think they may not like fantasy (me, sometimes). And it has a fair amount of spicy romance scenes.

Ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared to start book 2!
