After reading World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments, which was my favorite book I read all year, I had to pick up her newest release, Bite by Bite.
I was slower getting into this one as much, but the further in I got, the harder it was to put down. I loved it and the variety of essays and memories and sensory prose with each food. Aimee Nezhukumatathil's World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments was tied for my favorite book read in 2023. (The other one was Chain-Gang All-Stars - I know, I read widely.) I discovered her work after a neighboring library hosted it as their community read and invited her for a virtual author visit. The illustrator, Fumi Mini Nakamura, had their work on display at a nearby museum as well.
