I loved this "experiment" of a story. Told in a myriad of scenes - be it a news report, a grant application, a dream, an auto accident - the reader learns about a community forced together due to the impending destruction of a wildfire. It represents many viewpoints and realities of natural disasters, but it's written in the most poetic way.
I loved being surprised what direction each chapter break would reveal next, and how it would all layer together.

What a gorgeous, unique, and trailblazing tale about a wildfire and how the people closest to it survive.
This beautiful book is written in vignettes - it's got poetry and prose, newspaper articles, scenes here and there, and yet it all so stunningly paints a picture of a community surrounded by smoke as a wildfire rages around them and forces change to their routines.
