I really enjoyed this book. It's a wild premise and I wondered how it was going to be written, but it's honestly very tender and thoughtful. It's magical realism in a character driven story. I would highly recommend it for those wondering what magical realism is and wanting to give it a try. It was wonderful on audio and I found the story so striking.

If you enjoyed this and want to wander deeper into this kind of writing, I also suggest Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder.

That's the crux of the story in Emily Habeck's Shark Heart. While strange and unusual in premise, the book is actually tender and emotional. It's a wonderful example of magical realism - a genre rising in popularity over the last few years.
