[close] During my last trip to Chicago, I had the opportunity to go to a Medieval Times show! It was so much fun to be a part of the Queen's court for an evening, enjoy a meal, watch horses show off, and cheer for knights as they jousted. So when I saw the title of this book, The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly, I knew I had to check it out. And sure enough, it takes place at the Castle, the home of a Medieval Times show in a Chicago suburb!

The book is about Kit, a high school senior figuring out her next steps in life, while also struggling with her desire to be a Knight at the Castle, even though company policy states only cis men can ride as knights. So when she takes her brother's place as the Red Knight for an evening, she sets off a tidal wave for change, despite setbacks coming in from every angle. Even so, she continues literally fighting for her chance to be a Knight. She's also dealing with family issues, college decisions, friends, and romance.

This book is perfect for anyone who likes to read YA, appreciates nerdy references, enjoys history, or loves books where you get to root for the good guy (or girl, or person)!
