From the Bookshelf of La Crescent Public Library…

[close] Our High School Reunion: YA for Grownups book club read Gilded as our July selection. There was a lot of excitement going into this one, but unfortunately, most of our members did not finish the book. Those that did, liked it well enough, but thought it could use more editing to shorten the novel. Specifically, we would have liked to see Serilda end up at the castle sooner, rather than the back and forth plotline in the beginning.

That being said, we had an interesting discussion around the fairytale and enjoyed the details the author added to include much of the original tale while still spinning her own.

One member did go on to read the sequel and liked that book better. Other members recommended the Lunar Chronicles by the same author and the Shadow and Bone series by Leigh Bardugo and next reads.
