What Members Thought

Our library's May book club pick was Folklore by Bao Xiong. Copies were generously donated by Cia Siab Inc.
We were lucky enough to host the author and had an absolutely wonderful morning together! Our readers loved the book, despite it being quite different from what they normally choose. Bao's descriptions are so vivid that several members commented how easy it was to imagine it all playing out like a film. And since Bao has a background in film and screenwriting, that's no surprise.

Epic, eerie, and engaging!
Folklore is an adaptation of a Hmong legend about a husband and wife, Xai and Sia. The truly creepy start which began back in time hooked me right away! The rest of the story reads like a fable with lessons woven throughout the dialogue. I loved the world building as Sia braves the underworld and deals with the light and dark of it. The author is really great at the scary scenes especially. Beware the Demon Bride!
