[close] My Sister, the Serial Killer was our library's February pick for book club. Everyone thought it was a very fast read, with some dark humor moments, but overall was left wanting more.

Our group wished the ending was more concrete, but we still had a full discussion around the characters, their motivation, and what role beauty plays in a person's life.

Many of our readers started off liking the characters, but as you learn more about them, they are each full of dark secrets or truths. A few members thought there were no redeemable characters in the book! But we discussed a lot of about gender roles and sibling responsibilities between oldest and youngest and how that impacts the sisters' lives. Everyone hoped for a happier ending for Korede, less ambiguous than the one in the book. No one liked Ayoola, though there was a request for more to the story that would let us inside Ayoola's head a bit more instead of only viewing her seemingly superficial behavior through Korede or the mother's dialogue.

While the group was mixed in their feelings for the characters, they were all still glad they read it as it was very different from our usual picks and made them think. They would try another title by the author, so we hope we see more books to come!
