I had never heard of racing donkeys until I read Running With Sherman by Christopher McDougall. The donkeys actually race with their owners running beside them and an interesting bond is formed between the previously abused pet donkey and the owner/author. Not only is the story delightful and the writing very funny, it was a relaxing and easy read. I also learned about the Amish culture as the book is set in Lancaster, PA, a very large Amish community.
